Day 2 Child Guidance

On my second day at the daycare, I enjoyed working with the children. We did our morning routine of eating our breakfast and then participating in reading time and calendar. After we finished our morning routine the children were allowed to have some free play. Student A is two years old and wears a weighted sensory vest. There always seems to be some kind of trouble with her, regarding her being harmful to others, not listening, and not being able to stay still. While the children were enjoying their free play Student A was placed in a playpen and was brought toys. She had to be isolated from others. I asked my CT if I can let her out and have her play with the other children under my supervision. My CT joined me in keeping an eye on Student A. A few things I learned from my CT is how my CT would have Student A pick up a toy if she should happen to throw it against a wall, is that my CT would explain to her that toys should not be thrown and had her pick them up and show her how to place them on the shelves. One of my goals throughout this experience is to work with Student A and help her along with correcting her behaviors so she is then allowed to play more frequently with the others.
Hi Jasmine
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy reading about your field experience. Your experience sounds very similar to mine. We had a new student, and he likes to throw toys and leave toys out on the floor. The CT followed behind the student and talked to him about putting the toys away when he's finished playing with them. The CT would have the student bend over and pick up toys and put the toy away. It was also sad to hear that she have to be isolated in a playpen away from the other children. I also think that you working with the student on correcting her behavior would be a great experience for Student A so she would be able to play with her peers.
